Arne Slot Insists He Feels Safe and Retains The Club's Support Following PSV Eindhoven Defeat
Arne Slot acknowledged that it was expected for concerns to be asked about his future after another heavy loss versus PSV Eindhoven.
The Reds suffered their ninth loss in twelve matches, marking the club's worst run after being relegated in the 1953-54 season.
They were outplayed by the Dutch league champions on a punishing evening at their home ground.
“I'm confident, I am OK, I have got a lot of backing from management,” Slot stated.
“It would be nice to reverse this trend and earn three points of course but when you're in a managerial role and underperforming then it's expected that doubts arise.”
He noted, “I am OK with my position. This isn't the initial instance I’ve been in a tough spot but it's crucial that we improved our results.”
Conversations with The Board
Upon being questioned to provide details on his dialogues with the club's leadership, Slot said:
“We talk a lot. They are supportive for the squad and for me and we discuss these matters but they don’t call me all the time each day to say they back me.”
He mentioned, “During our regular conversations we have I sense the confidence. However I've not talked to them since this game yet so let’s see.”
Familiar Issues and Squad Reaction
The manager lamented familiar failings from his Liverpool side in their Champions League loss, specifically missed opportunities and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was blunter in his view of the club’s predicament.
“I don’t have the solutions. Truthfully, I do not. I'm telling that to all,” Jones remarked.
“It's simply unacceptable. I don’t even need to wait to consider it. I’m past being angry internally. I’m at the point now where I just don’t have the vocabulary.”
He added, “It's tough because I’m playing for the team I support. I'm a supporter, and I've watched Liverpool all my life.”
“In recent memory, I've not seen a Liverpool team going through a spell of this nature with outcomes like these.”
He stated, “But we still have that badge on our shirts. And until that badge is removed, we will always compete.”
“We will attempt to help the side return to the top, demonstrate to all again the values of this club and why people call it the greatest side in the planet.”
“At this moment, things are bad and we have to turn it around.”
