Assassin's Creed Reveals Unexpected AoT Event for Holiday Season
In a surprising crossover event that challenges usual predictions, Ubisoft has revealed an in-game collaboration between Assassin's Creed Shadows and the renowned anime series Attack on Titan. The surprising holiday event continues from November 25 through December 22, providing free bonus story content for Shadows players.
Strange Questline Revealed
According to the official announcement, "A mysterious encounter leads protagonists Naoe and Yasuke into a original adventure, where whispers of forbidden ceremonies and monstrous metamorphoses echo through the obscurity." The plot presents a "oddly dressed woman named Ada" who assigns the characters with traveling into the Crystal Cave—a important location from Attack on Titan—to rescue her friend from a clandestine sect.
The adventure centers on "strange trials and a terrifying foe" and is open to all players who have acquired the Yasuke character.
Familiar Places and Changes
The trailer highlights the Hidden Temple from Attack on Titan recreated as the Crystal Cave. This significant location was earlier where the Reiss royal family handed down the Founding Titan ability through eras. The preview concludes with a powerful scene showing a character, presumably the captive, transforming into a Titan that towers over Naoe and Yasuke.
Unique Items and Additional Content
Players who successfully complete the adventure will acquire an exclusive katana together with multiple objects secreted throughout the area in secret chests. The update also features premium Attack on Titan item packs, featuring:
- Titan-based costume for Yasuke
- Mikasa costume for Naoe
- Unique weapons
- Survey Corps steed
Third Free Story Update
This release also adds the game's latest free story addition, titled "The Enigma." This playful adventure teams Naoe and Yasuke as they swap signature techniques: Naoe debuts a performative variation of Yasuke's war kick, while Yasuke acquires subduing stealth takedowns. True to its name, "A Puzzlement" also includes a new environmental puzzle that may eventually shed light on some unanswered questions from the main storyline.
Earlier Japanese Animation Collaborations
This represents scarcely the first time the Assassin's Creed franchise has partnered with famous anime series. The series formerly featured a 2020 crossover story uniting Assassin's Creed: Valhalla with Makoto Yukimura's Vinland Saga. Additionally, Valhalla subtly featured a quest that unmistakably echoed the well-known series One-Punch Man.
