England's Bowling Consultant Tim Southee Unsure on Ashes Availability

Tim Southee's last Test match for the Kiwis was versus the English side in the final month of 2024.

England bowling consultant Tim Southee is currently evaluating the extent of his role will be at the forthcoming Ashes contest in the host nation.

The former Kiwi seamer is expected to be present for the opening match due to his participation in the International League T20 competition, which begins on December 2 in the United Arab Emirates.

Southee, 36, took up a position as England's fast bowling consultant in the summer after claiming 391 scalps in 107 Tests for New Zealand.

Commenting as England's team for the opening of three T20 matches against New Zealand was announced, Southee stated of his availability: "We are still evaluating the situation at the moment.

"We'll see what happens over the coming days."

English bowling legend Broad had declared the Australian team as their "weakest squad since 2010", but the consultant was in little doubt over what to expect during the contest, which starts on November 21.

"In my view there's ever a poor Australian cricket team," Southee said.

"The team's attention is firmly on what we're trying to do. I think the caliber of [England's] team that's going out to Australia is excellent.

"It ought to be an thrilling encounter, that series. Not only [are|do] English and Australian people looking forward to it, I believe the entire cricketing community is."

But, before the English team head to Perth for the first Ashes match, they take on New Zealand in Christchurch on Saturday.
