Former Doctor Faces Assault Charges Against 38 Patients

Prosecutors have announced that a former physician has been charged with committing sexual assaults involving thirty-eight individuals who were under his care.

Details of the Serious Charges

Nathaniel Spencer from Birmingham faces allegations of dozens of acts of sexual assault – including acts against minors under the age of thirteen – between 2017 and 2021.

A senior prosecutor stated, “Our prosecutors have diligently worked to assist a thorough and intricate police inquiry, meticulously examining the available evidence to determine that there is sufficient evidence to bring the case to trial and that it is in the public interest.”

The Investigation

The charges come after what investigators described as a “complex investigation” into alleged sexual offences at two hospitals: the Royal Stoke university hospital and a facility in Dudley.

Spencer is scheduled to appear at the local magistrates' court on 20 January.

Breakdown of Charges

The charging documents said the forty-five charges he is charged with:

  • Fifteen counts of assault.
  • Seventeen counts of assault by penetration.
  • 9 counts of sexual assault of a child under 13.
  • 3 counts of assault of a child under 13 by penetration.
  • One count of attempted penetrative assault.
