The last season concluded in 2021 with a final episode that drew in more than 17 million viewers. Speculation about a new season have been widespread ever since, but official word only arrived this week.

Fresh Obstacles for The Team

Series seven will open with AC-12 having been disbanded and rebranded as the Inspectorate of Police Standards, according to the announcement.

Martin Compston's character, Kate Fleming, and Ted Hastings continue working to combat corruption within the law enforcement.

The team's mission "faces unprecedented challenges", and under these circumstances, these officers are assigned their "most delicate case to date."

Fresh Face and Complex Case

An additional officer, DI Dominic Gough, portrayed as a charming officer known for takedowns of organized crime, is accused of abusing his position to act as a sexual predator.

However, this investigation could be a deliberate distraction from a larger danger still active in the background, plot details hinted.

Speaking about the renewal, Jed Mercurio commented: "All cast and crew are deeply thankful to the dedicated viewers."

"It's an honor to have had countless followers watch the developments of the unit over six previous seasons and we couldn't be more delighted to be returning for a seventh installment."

He added: "Corruption in this country was thought to be over while the series was not airing, so I've been forced to use my creativity."

Vicky McClure remarked: "It goes without saying I'm very happy the show is returning! Eager to work with Jed, Compston and Adrian again. The city, we'll see you soon!"

Series Legacy

The drama premiered in the early 2010s and became a highly successful TV dramas of the past ten years, attracting notable actors such as Thandiwe Newton.

The BBC haven't revealed exactly the upcoming series will premiere.

Nevertheless, the network announced on this week that a new season is now being produced.
