Pat Bamford Joins the Blades Despite Initiating Abusive Chants Targeting Manager Wilder
Patrick Bamford is now a member of the Championship side only half a year after starting disrespectful chants targeting their manager, Chris Wilder.
The 32-year-old forward, a free agent after departing from Leeds United, has put pen to paper on a deal joining the second-tier club in difficulty until January. His lengthy time with Leeds was ended amicably in August.
One of Bamford’s final notable acts as a Leeds player involved leading abusive songs regarding Chris Wilder during the club’s promotion celebrations this spring. Currently, the one-cap England international will be playing under Wilder as Sheffield United's boss seeks to pull the team he loves out of the relegation zone.
Previous Conflict Involving Bamford & the Manager
Both men had history before Leeds earned promotion to the top flight last season while Sheffield United lost the promotion decider to Sunderland. The manager described Bamford as “a muppet” back when the situation was different in 2018-19 and Sheffield United won automatic promotion while Leeds United missed out in the playoffs.
Making Amends & Looking Ahead
All appears has been forgiven and forgotten with Sheffield United, the league's least productive attack, urgently requiring of improvement in attack and Bamford looking to resurrect his playing days.
The Wilder chant gained traction this spring. A repentant Bamford and the Leeds manager, Farke, called Wilder the following day.
Wilder said at the time: “Had a conversation with Pat recently and I have no issue whatsoever with that. I'm uncertain about the words used from a fellow professional! However I valued and respected him calling me.
“We spent 20 minutes and the same again I spoke to Daniel Farke as well and had a longer discussion together and he is a super guy, a top guy. When I was playing we would give it and take it and that is part and parcel of the game at every level, even on a Sunday morning. I have absolutely no issue. I am cool with the situation and I said that to Pat.”
Recent Career Struggles
Bamford made 18 appearances for Leeds in the previous campaign but the ex- Forest, Chelsea & Middlesbrough striker has faced difficulties with injury in recent years.
