The Red Devils Poised to Secure Germany Forward Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich
Manchester United are finalising completing the signing for prolific German forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from Bayern Munich.
A Major Acquisition for United
Schüller, who has half a year left on her contract, has been a prolific goal-getter for her club and the national team. Having scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. Her arrival is viewed as a marquee signing for the Women’s Super League team.
Her exit from Bayern has been anticipated after she was seen holding back emotions while thanking the club's fans following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
It was reported in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its leading forwards. According to reports, all the paperwork for the transfer have now been completed.
Reliable Goalscoring to Strengthen the Attack
The 28-year-old’s arrival should represent a significant boost to United’s attacking options. Schüller has been highly reliable with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.
- For seven consecutive seasons, including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She claimed the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Building Steam at Old Trafford
Securing Schüller’s signature comes at a time when United appear to be building momentum.
Their recent on-pitch successes feature securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the winter break has seen additional activity:
- The acquisition of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The contract extension for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since arriving in 2023.
On Miyazawa’s extension, a club official commented: “She has become a critical component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill enables her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”
The new defender, having joined from a club in the American league, said: “You can sense how much the club have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
