The Streaming Platform is Developing a Far Cry TV Show from the Producers of Alien: Earth and the Comedy Hit.
The most recent Far Cry title that audiences explored was Far Cry 6, which showcased Giancarlo Esposito as the bad guy, Antón, and debuted back in October 6, 2021. As a series, it is known for embracing chaos and insanity with the same glee, all while telling gripping, ideologically themed tales. Little surprise that the network’s recent announcement for a Far Cry limited-run show pulled in two producers whose work have exemplified all of those elements.
Show Details
Adapted from Ubisoft's popular video game series, the self-contained anthology series is set to premiere on Hulu and is being made by FX Productions. The show will also parallel the video games' format by having a fresh backdrop and ensemble in every instalment.
Executive Team
Rob Mac, mastermind of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and Noah Hawley, the visionary behind FX's Alien: Earth and Fargo, will serve as executive producers on the series under their companies, More Better Productions for Mac, and 26 Keys for Hawley. They will be partnered by Emilia Serrano for 26 Keys, Nick Frenkel for 3 Arts, Jackie Cohn for More Better Productions, John Campisi, Gerard Guillemot, Margaret Boykin, and Austin Dill for Ubisoft Film & Television.
The network enjoyed magnificent relationships with Rob Mac and Noah Hawley for a combined six series and 32 seasons of television, and we are overjoyed that they are teaming up for Far Cry,” stated Nick Grad, President, FX Entertainment, in a statement. “I have no doubt that they will tell this story in a way that is innovative, compelling, and extremely entertaining. We also want to acknowledge our collaborators at Ubisoft for entrusting us with this popular property.”
Upcoming Developments
Mac will also appear in the show, but at the time of writing, we have no details on what role that could be. Hawley's Alien: Earth was recently approved for more episodes, with FX and Disney finalizing a new overall deal with the showrunner.
“Getting to work alongside Noah Hawley is a dream realized,” remarked Rob Mac. “Ubisoft has been remarkably accommodating, entrusting us with one of the most famous video-game universes ever created. And throughout this process, my FX team continues to lift me up with their constant trust and support.”
“What appeals to me about the Far Cry game collection is that it’s an anthology series. Each game is a interpretation of a theme, the same way every run of Fargo is a variation on a story,” explained Hawley. “To create a big action show that can shift from one instalment to the next, while always examining the essence of society through this multifaceted and chaotic perspective, is a ultimate goal. I’m eager to collaborate with Rob and introduce our common irreverent, visionary approach to the television.”
A time frame for when we can expect the new Far Cry show has not yet been revealed. The series will premiere on Hulu in the United States and on Disney Plus internationally.
